Benefits of Herman Hollerith Center

The Herman Hollerith Center (HHZ)

The Herman Hollerith Teaching and Research Center (HHZ) brings together the scientific achievements of the colleagues of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Reutlingen. The teaching and research center is integrated into the structures of the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences, the Reutlingen Research Institute and the Faculty of Computer Science.

Together with that of the University of Stuttgart and other partners from science and business, relevant sub-questions in the area of business informatics are taken up in research and teaching. The HHZ's profile as a graduate school includes teaching programs for the Master of Science and the Research Center as a coordinating research organization for cooperative research projects. The focus is on the expansion of cooperative doctoral procedures for outstanding graduates of their own master programs.

Focus
With the Master Programs Digital Business Engineering and Digital Business Management, the HHZ takes up important areas of innovation in business informatics and links them with important perspectives of current research: digital business & digital transformation, enterprise and software architectures for services & cloud computing, semantic support, management of business processes , Performance Management, Big Data Management & Analytics, Telematics & Internet of Things as well as concepts for supporting transformation projects for the strategically oriented digital business and related information systems. The HHZ explicitly pursues an interdisciplinary approach and a combination of business and IT.

Cooperative research
Entrepreneurship issues in business informatics are restricted to strategic research topics and are researched in a dialogue between science and practice. In cooperative research, students and doctoral students are actively involved and effectively supported. Results of the research will be included in the scientific discussion in the form of high-quality conference papers, lectures, journal essays, project documentation, dissertations, monographs and research studies as well as in non-profit knowledge exchange platforms in Germany (especially the GI-Gesellschaft für Informatik) and international (ACM, IEEE, EMAC , AMA, among others).

Internationality, exchange and dialogue
Students, doctoral students and professors are involved in the exchange programs with national and international partners through targeted measures: Cooperative doctoral colloquia, workshops with company partners, cooperative publications and conferences, the HHZ-Jahreskonferenz, cooperation in specialist groups and working groups of the GI, ACM, IEEE and others Scientific organizations, as well as project co-operation with scientific and industrial partners in joint research programs. In addition, the members of the Teaching and Research Center organize national and international expert conferences as experts and experts in the scientific discussion.

Promotional program
The professors of the HHZ organize the HHZ promotions program in their capacity as co-supervisors, assessors and auditors for cooperative doctoral procedures in close coordination with colleagues from promotions entitled programs. The results of the joint research work directly benefit the research and teaching as well as the students and doctoral students at the locations Reutlingen, Böblingen and the cooperation partners involved.
